Meet the community
Kanyemba Lodge is located just a short distance from Makanya Village – which is home to the majority of our staff. We are delighted to offer visits to Makanya Village to guests who wish to see a typical rural Zambian village. You will be accompanied by one of our staff members, who will introduce you to residents of the village, and its facilities. The village walk is often combined with a short sunset cruise on return to the lodge, or can be combined with a visit to the banana farm.
Please note that we request our guests to NOT take items to give out in the village – specifically sweets, pens, etc. This creates a culture of begging – something we are particularly careful to ensure does not happen.
Kanyemba is situated next door to Chakalaka Farm where bananas and mangoes are grown, employing many of the local people. A tour of the farm can be arranged for those that are interested.
If you wish to make a donation of items, please speak to a member of senior staff, and we can arrange for goods to be donated to one of the local schools.
